Barrett's Private Tears :(
Updated: Aug 26

Why is Barrett so sad?
"Barret's Privateers" - Stan Rogers
I recently watched the "One Warm Line" Stan Rogers documentary on YouTube. Which was great while not knowing a lot about him, mostly as a proper introduction. I don't think it's possible to be from the East Coast of Canada without knowing "Barrett's Privateers". But, many other songs stuck out, including "Make And Break Harbour", "45 Years" and the absolute ear-worm that is "The Mary Ellen Carter". It's not even an ear-worm, it's like a carnivorous earwig.
He is obviously a performer that I've greatly slept on.
While using the blog title as a metaphor, your tears don't only have to be done in private. You have nothing to be ashamed of, don't suffer in silence. Talking openly about whatever is bothering you isn't just looking for sympathy either. It's alright if nobody understands and wants to get you wrong. Your name doesn't even have to be Barrett to decide to be more open about it.
Whatever it is, NORMALIZE TALKING ABOUT IT!
It might feel like oversharing, but that can also be a crucial step in finding your people. It's not cool to hold it all in and not ever connect with anyone who shares similar experiences. Instead of just sharing something about Bell Let's Talk day when it comes around once a year, reach out to someone!
You might wish to be in Sherwood Park. (I don't know about that one 😬) Though, It's alright to be a "broken man on a Halifax pier". But let's just hope they're the "last of Barrett's" private tears.
Even if he feels like it, Barrett's not alone
