"Born In The Wrong Time Period"

That little line I wrote at the beginning of my previous blog got me thinking.

Have you ever considered that while closely relating to an artifact of music from a specific time period, you might not actually want to be alive during that time period? I dove quickly into the convenience that technology has brought and while it's good to take breaks from it, there are definitely certain aspects that we wouldn't want to go without. You may like music from Beethoven and admire his piano work even. But were you really "born in the wrong time period" because of that? Let's teleport back to see Beethoven play piano live, get our leg cut off without anesthetic, sleep in a bed of straw and then contract uncontrollable tuberculosis. I'm sure some of those things might be inconsistent with the time period but you get my point. I'm no historian.

Sure, I love Chuck Berry but if I was around in the 50's and 60's I might not ever know who he was or be wealthy enough to own a radio, or a record of his to hear him on.

This phrase is most prominent with bands like Nirvana and the 90's. Honestly, I can see the benefit to living in a time that technology isn't so prominent and is rather at its tipping point. But there are still very many obvious advantages and disadvantages to now vs then and technological advancement. A lot of the folks at that grunge show probably also didn't shower. (smells like teen spirit?)

You can wish all you want, but at least be thankful you have a device in your pocket to hear their music at any given second of the day.

GOD WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT SO LITERAL MAN!
