Who is Frank Furter?
Or lack thereof?
What if John Prine was actually referring to the bun for "Jack & Diane"'s chili dog?
Really reaching with this one.
"Well done, hot dog bun, my sisters a nun" - John Prine
"Suckin' on a chili dog" - John Cougar Mellencamp
Whatever way you choose to enjoy that frankfurter is up to you. OR IS IT?
See, a good lyricist can be seen in a bad light without context!

Just like those years ago when you saw posts comparing the lyrics of Lil Wayne to Tupac's. It usually went from some of Tupac's best to Lil Wayne's worst. The sentiment that musicians of the 90s had great lyrics while modern musicians got away with grand larceny is a very valid one. But I remember those as not always being the greatest lyrical comparisons. Comparing the best lyrics of a rapper from an older time to the worst of a current one. If you compare someone's best to your worst, *cough* like on social media. You're only going to see yourself in a negative light. Just like comparing yourself to an older version of you, typically that is a better option but don't compare your best at the height of illness to the best of a healthier version of yourself. Context matters, that frankfurter might not be the kind you want right now.
WOW! Imperative knowledge and metaphors found in your hot dog!
(Also a bunch of other things you probably shouldn't consume.)
