"Hey Alexa, what's the weather for today?" "Today is cloudy with 50-70mm of expected rain with a potential of 100 mm and 50 km/h winds. Conway Twitty released new music today" Thanks for that bit of added information Alexa, it was actually more fitting than you think. Of course it's just a compilation of hits, but with a 21 years predeceased Conway, perhaps it's better off that way. Alive or not, he certainly fit today's vibe. It's a "Rainy Night In Georgia".
Rainy days are always good for writing. Maybe this will be the first of many "rainy day" blog posts or maybe it won't be and this will be the only one. I'm sure "everybody" will be DYING to find out. If you've got some time on a rainy day and your regular daily activities are put on hold, maybe it'll help spark some creativity in you. Such as Alexa and Mr. Conway Twitty did for me. *Cue Family Guy clip
I decided I wanted to write about some of my favourite songs to listen to on a rainy day. This list also includes any Conway Twitty. I recently acquired America's Greatest Hits: History, and that album certainly fit the vibe. America in general is a little underrated and the guitar work in "Ventura Highway" is just so mystical and magical making you feel today's blues while also making you hopeful for tomorrow's shine. (even though I think it's supposed to rain again tomorrow; you know what I mean.) "A Horse With No Name" is just such a classic and it's hard not to think of that scene in Breaking Bad with it. I also recently acquired Jar Of Flies from Layne era Alice In Chains after a lifelong hunt. "Nutshell" is always a go-to on a rainy day or with a cup of tea and a date square. But nothing felt quite like when I saw that album in the stack, it was a little emotional, I kind of got butterflies. BULLET WITH BUTTERFLY WINGS! Just kidding, wrong band lol. "Rubber Ring" by The Smiths is always very fitting for a rainy day along with "The Guns Of Brixton" by The Clash, especially for a rainy night. Speaking of, "I love a Rainy Night" by Eddie Rabbitt or "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" by CCR. For a little Newfie twist, "Grey Foggy Day" by Eddie Coffey. "SUMMER DAYS THEY WERE WARMER THEN". I think it's just soft or sad tunes that I want to hear on rainy days, so Chris Cornell always does the trick too. "I Am The Highway" will always be one of my favourites and I might switch between the Audioslave or live solo version on Songbook intermittently. "Listen To The Music" by The Doobie Brothers is a pretty new addition to my rotation that fits quite well even though it has a little more good vibes than sad ones. Whether it just has "rain" in the title or just feels right, there's many songs to fit the rainy day vibe. Of course there's an abundance more I could include but I figured I'd keep this pretty "sweet" and short to leave the others for another blog to come.
