Canada moment

I know how greatly my love for music was heavily influenced by the MuchMusic "Top 30 countdown." So I've decided that I'll give thanks for that.

I remember seeing the video for "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers and thinking "wow this is really weird." But I liked it?

I also remember that there was a bit of an upheaval about the video for "Nothing To Lose" by Billy Talent. Due its' graphic subject matter and whatnot. But that'll always be my favourite Billy Talent song. I saw them a couple years ago and it was extremely nostalgic to hear that live. The 5 year old me was screaming.

The song and video for "Man I used To Be" by K-os had my young mind completely enthralled. "I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman" definitely made a name for itself too. Limewire and my bunk ass mp3 player didn't know what they had coming.

There had to have been some Three Days Grace scattered on the countdowns that I must've missed or forgotten. I saw 3/4 Days Grace a couple years ago and it was great. But they have Adam back now!?!?!?

MuchMusic can also take credit for my young love of Simple Plan and Sum 41.

To fit the narrative even more so, I remember when Classified's "Oh Canada" showed up there. That was a national anthem in itself. Any of his older tunes including, "Anybody Listening", "Fifth Element", "The Maritimes" and so on were bound to set my young East Coast mind in a spiral.

Those kinds of tracks fuelled a love for *real* hip-hop.

I've also realized that I spend so much time formatting these blogs on my laptop and then post them on Instagram to virtually only be viewed on mobile.
