Like a manhole cover?
Like a tonneau cover for the bed of your truck?
A cover song can feel (or sound) like getting in the shower with your socks on. Or not. (maybe it's really good) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A cover means that you can try it out yourself. Even if people ask "who sings this song?" and you tell them, just so they can say "Yeah? Well, let them sing it!"
So, a very intensely put metaphor would be... for anyone doubting the effects of a chronic illness, maybe you should try it out yourself!
Don't use it as something to cover up something else. Maybe it'll give that song a "fresh breath of air"! LET IT BREATHE! I think it's called a cover just to show that it isn't that artists' song? (SOMETHING YOU ALREADY KNEW)
You can find cover music anywhere you go. But maybe while on the Atlantic coast of Canada or in Atlantic city, New Jersey. I'm sure you'll find some tunes. There's a really good song about Atlantic City, It's by Bruce Springsteen, but I recommend the version by The Band.
"It'S mOrE tHaN jUsT a CoVeR", don't be so dramatic. Some "it's an experience" nonsense.
While being completely biased, I'd also recommend anything from that Canadian island in the Atlantic too? Even if you're far away from it.
"No Price Tags On The Doors Of Newfoundland" played by a chronically homesick harmonica boi 😎
Some other really good covers I can think of on the spot:
AnnenMayKantereit - Tom's Diner
Hugo - "99 Problems"
"Our Town" - Shanneyganock
Everything The Dead South has done
