I can't speak for everyone, but I know that a lot of people in their late 20s -30s from Newfoundland know "Bartender Song" by Rehab. I guess it was played more. (Maybe not just a Newfoundland thing?) I guess exposure I have to that specific group would take part. Feel free to tell me what you heard wherever you're from. In a less cultural aspect, It seems that everyone that age wants to hear Eminem. Cultural Icon could be a better term? I'm sure there are some icons to mention from every time era. MuchMusic or MTV might jog your memory. "Just hear that guitar on the MTV." - Dire Straits.
"Just to hear that guitar ring" - Powder Blues Band

I just quoted a phenomenal Canadian band. There are lots of those, support them! (written on the .com domain... OOPS!) Rest assured that the Canada day playlist will be full of The Tragically Hip. Do they usually listen to "Africa" by Toto in Africa? I guess they listen to lots of Bob Marley in Jamaica. I suppose you'll find some Russian hard bass in Russia. ABBA in Sweden? I don't think it actually matters.
Listen where-ever you are
