I CAN PLAY THIS ON EXPERT!

Is "video games" one word or two?

I know I've written about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and EA Skate before. But I heard "Green Grass and High Tides" by The Outlaws from Rock Band. It was Guitar Hero 3 that riddled my brain with the riff of Eric Johnson's "Cliffs Of Dover".

Maybe those games were a sort of "gateway drug" too.

Sure there were "spin"-offs like DJ Hero and whatnot. But I didn't really play those, I just know they had some Daft Punk.

Guitar Hero 2 introduced me to Buckethead with "Jordan". Just learning that "John The Fisherman" was on it too? (See there's a whole bunch of stuff I missed) There's always new stuff to notice in old stuff when you go back years later.

Guitar Hero 3 had you on a "Slow Ride" while you "Run To The Hills". If you were also but a young lad, It very likely introduced you to "Barracuda" and maybe Heart in general. End it off with a crazy guitar version of "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", but there was still so much in between.

Guitar Hero: World Tour showed me "Band On The Run" to "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" as an introduction to The Wings and The Beastie Boys. And again, with so much in between.

Those were just a couple games, there were set-lists from titles like Lego Rock Band and Guitar Hero: Metallica to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. Those games helped shape everyone's playlists today. Even just as an influence. Where would you be if you didn't shred "Love in an Elevator" in your buddy's basement 20 years ago?

Expert? That ship has sailed. "Slow Ride" on easy, maybe.
