Tunes for a flare, not like Ric Flair. WOOOOO!!!

Summer is one big flare

like a solar flare?

not quite honk choo honk choo but partially

I have recently took a further dive into Alan Cross's "A Journal of Musical Things" website and remember seeing him say that "People love lists" or maybe it was in a description on one of his podcasts. I can't remember. Anyways. If there's one thing (I guess two?) I know, it's chronic illness and music. TOP 10 FLARE BEATS!? (in a slightly randomized order)

As I've said before, you can listen to the "Good Veebs" playlist all you want but if your body is angry about it raining or being sunny or something, chill beats are definitely nice to hear while curled up in a ball feeling like you were trampled by a moose.

10#: "I'm Still Fine (Live At The Ryman)" - Red Clay Strays

If this is your introduction to Red Clay Strays, it shouldn't be. The live version is the only version you need to hear and no matter what version you hear, the lyrics to "I'm Still Fine" are exactly what you need for the moment.

9#: "Neath The Shade of the Tree" - Jake Vaadeland

You're actually not laying in your bed feeling loopy or in pain, you're "Neath The Shade of the Tree". Maybe just ignore the "the rope that still hangs" part. Imagine it in a "you're submersed in nature kind of way." But get some nature anyway you can. Not like a morbid kind of way. On a lighter note, "Living Simply" from Jake could also easily take the spotlight here. If you're gonna load up the YouTube version of this to hear, the "Loch Lomond" video is a good one too.

8#: "I Never Go Around Mirrors" - Multiple?

There are so many good versions of this song, or it was made famous by so many people. Lefty Frizzell and Whitey Shafer did the original. Colter Wall's version is probably my favourite, but you'll have to do some YouTube scouring for that version. The Merle Haggard and The Strangers version is the Apple Music go-to. Either way, LET IT ALL OUT! Let a good ol' country heartbreak do that for you. Remember, rest is productive too.

7#: "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" - Multiple Again...

You'd probably know the version from The Carter Family, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or whatnot. Definitely listen to the version from The Dead South for a slow moment. Like I said last time, they just put a flavourful spin on anything. Maybe your body will be unbroken? A more upbeat version that I'd recommend is the Randy Travis cover. But also if you want Randy to completely tear your heart out and stomp on it, you could listen to "Three Wooden Crosses".

6#: "The Garden" - Sierra Ferrell

Yes you know it from The Hunger Games. Back to the whole imagining that you're in nature. "Dreaming of a garden again" is a good place to start. Dreaming of it also doesn't require you falling over in it. BONUS! A lot of Sierra Ferrell is needed in the forecast of some down time and "The Garden" definitely does its job. So does her tribute version of "Years", god it really does.

5#: "To-Do List" - Sherman Downey

To-do list? You don't have one. Scrap it. Which I guess is kinda the intent that this song portrays? "Try not to get distracted by everything to do", "focus on the one thing", whatever you need at that moment. But this is sure a chill relaxing tune that's also cheery and promising, that's a go-to for any amount of down time.

4#: "Story" - The White Buffalo

BANJER MOMENT!

Jake from The White Buffalo can harshly sing to the tune of outlaw bikers on a drive to do some criminal stuff. He can also sing a very soft and comforting melody to you. Like I've said before, just like Frank's Red Hot, put that shit on everything. "Story" is definitely one of my favourite tunes from him and happens to be slow enough to accompany a flare or a relaxing cup of tea. I could easily make a list of songs to have with a "Cup Of Tea". Actually, I kinda did, check out the "Cup Of Tea" playlist!

3#: "Like A Wave" - Cat Clyde

"Tenderly, heavily" Dealing with chronic illness is "like a wave you wash over me". "All The Black (Acoustic)" might actually be favoured over this one for me, but then I couldn't use that "Like A Wave" lyric. So it makes more sense.

2#: "Nancy Spain" - The Masterless Men

TENOR BANJER MOMENT?

(I think)

Maybe it just sounds so sharp because it's properly tuned unlike mine?

"Of all the stars that ever shun, not one does twinkle like" your bed + this song. Maybe equally as much as while hearing "Saltwater Joys", ME 'ART'S RIGHT UP IN ME T'ROAT. Maybe this one will apply more greatly to the Newfie boy. When diving deeply in to the slower tunes this is just what I want to hear.

1#: "Fuck Up" - Sarah Shook and The Disarmers

But you're not. It's also not your fault. "It's hard to wake up in the morning, when I just crawled into bed", but in a different way. It talks about crawling into bed nonetheless. A very relatable experience. It's nappy time. Also make sure you're getting them 8+ hour sleepies!? Waking up right away is not ideal for anyone. This song is just really good, actually you don't have to pay attention to the lyrics. Then Sprinkle in a bit of "The nail".

There's a list of some songs with good wordplay including positive affirmations?!

Remember, it's just a down day.

"Down" - Jay Sean
